News that Prof. George Magoha had been appointed as Education CS sparked a mixture of joy and fear in equal measure among all education stakeholders.
Joy for those who value education and quality education for that matter; fear and anxiety for those whose malicious and dubious acts in the education sector have been quashed (or are yet to be quashed very soon) by the man of the hour.
Prof Magoha has proved his mettle in his past undertakings in the education sector, and he will certainly fit into the docket.
During his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, he made tremendous steps that jolted UoN into a world-class university that it is today; in both structure and education quality.
He also headed various academic departments in the university and has thus been fully engaged in the matter and form of university education.
Such a guy knows what ails our system, and what can and should be done to make things better.
He has also worked with KNEC as the chairperson and has gone a long way in curbing examination irregularities, something that had soiled Kenya’s education.
Having worked under CS Fred Matiang’I, he knows a thing or two about efficiency and is definitely the right man for the job.
His vast experience, coupled with his obvious love for education and Kenyans, in general, will certainly make our education system better.
