Woman killed, body stuffed into a water tank by husband in Eldoret

Police in Eldoret are investigating the death of a woman alleged to have been killed by her boyfriend on Monday night.

Twenty-six-year-old Fiona Kisuya’s mutilated body was found stuffed into a water tank at the couple’s Mariakani home in Kapsoya estate.

According to police, the woman’s head and hands were found next to her partly burnt body.

Aaron Kipyego, a neighbour, said the suspect had told him he was looking for help to get rid of a body.

“When I met him in the morning, he broke the news saying he had killed somebody and because I was his friend, he wanted me to assist him to dispose of the body. He insisted that I not mention the matter to anybody,” said Mr Kipyego.

“I went and told my wife about the bizarre incident before informing the police.”

Eldoret East OCPD John Owuoth said a team of officers was dispatched to the scene yesterday morning.

“We received information of the killing from a neighbour in Mariakani area. Details indicate that there was a struggle at their (couple’s) home,” said Mr Owuoth.

“The deceased had deep cuts on the head and both hands. We were able to arrest the 36-year-old suspect, who is assisting us with investigations.”

Owuoth said the couple had two children.

“We are treating it as a murder case. At the scene, we were able to recover a panga, a knife and a matchbox, which we believe were used in the incident that is the first of its kind in the area.”

Loss of life

According to friends of the family, the suspect returned to the country last year from the United States, where he had lived for a while.

“It is believed that he was deported and came to Kenya to live with the deceased,” said a woman identified only as Faustine.

She said while the couple had been having domestic quarrels, she had not thought that their differences would eventually lead to loss of life.

“I knew the deceased; she was my former schoolmate back in primary. Their home is in Nangili area and her death has shocked everyone.”

Some neighbours claimed that the suspect often assaulted Ms Kisuya in public.

“There is a time I saw him pull her by the hair on their way to Kapsoya centre and I pitied them. It seems he was into drugs because the manner in which he killed his wife is shocking,” said John Wekesa.

The neighbours said they blamed themselves for not intervening, saying the woman would be alive if they had gone to her rescue.
