Raphael Tuju reveals he wore first underwear in high school

Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju startled students on Friday after revealing he did not know what underwear was until he went to the Starehe Boys' Centre.

Speaking at an event to mark his old schools’ 60th year anniversary, Tuju divulged that was given his first ever underwear at Starehe Boys’ Centre by founder Dr Geoffrey William Griffin.

“I had never worn inner wears until I came to Starehe. I came here bare…I was a miserable poor little boy when I came here and my first innerwear was given to me by Dr Griffin. I’ll never ever underestimate the contribution that Starehe Boys has had in my life,” said Tuju.

The boys could not hold their laughter inside and it came out in short gasps.

“What are you clapping for? Are you clapping for innerwear or are you laughing at me?” The Cabinet Secretary without a portfolio asked the applauding boys.

According to his biography, Tuju attended Majiwa Primary School and Nakuru West Primary School for his primary education and later joined Starehe Boys' Centre.

He has a Masters of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester, UK.

He began his career in journalism in the early 1980’s and 1990’s and was one of the pioneer Kenyan TV anchors working at KTN.

He later established Ace communications company. The company played a key role in producing documentaries that enlightened the society on the deadly HIV virus in early 2000.

The company saw him even work with international corporations like the UN. He
later sold the company although he remains a silent shareholder at Ace Communications.

He won an International Emmy award for a TV production.

In 2018 he was named by President Uhuru Kenyatta as a Cabinet Secretary without portfolio.
