Divisive politics will not happen again in this region, declares DP Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned leaders against preaching division, saying stern action will be taken against them.

The DP yesterday said it is important for leaders to foster harmony and continue with the development agenda.

He spoke at his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County after meeting religious leaders in the North Rift, led by Catholic Bishop Maurice Crowley.

He said leaders should craft their messages in a manner that does not create division but champions prosperity of the nation.

Ruto said the country has had a divisive past that should not be repeated.

"Divisive politics of hate will not happen in this region again and we will never go that route. We will pay whatever price to make sure that our region is peaceful and communities live harmoniously,” he said.

The DP, who held prayers and thanksgiving, used the platform to enumerate the strides made by the late Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir in preaching and uniting communities for peaceful co-existence.

Those who attended the event said Ruto cautioned against the political class hellbent on breaking the unity among communities brought about by the building bridges initiative.

“He was clear on the path of unity noting that the state will not be silent as individuals propagate negative ethnicity,” said a priest who was present.
