The College of Insurance (COI) has entered into a partnership with Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) that will see the COI offer training towards the Award in Bancassurance, in addition to other CISI qualifications.

The Award in Bancassurance (AWB) will seek to provide solid grounding in the core financial, life assurance and insurance products.

“It offers guidance on what constitutes professional practice, providing a framework for ethical behaviour. The qualification is designed for financial advisers and insurance agents working within the banking sector and is awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), delivered in partnership with the CISI in Africa," said college CEO Ben Kajwang.

He added that the qualification will be key in building capacity within the banking sector, at an international standard, towards ensuring that institutions and their staff are equipped with the knowledge to promote insurance products sales through banking channels.

Dr Kajwang added, “It will also enable them to advise and recommend products that are suitable and appropriate to their different clients in an ethical manner, a concept that is increasingly important to the regulator Insurance Regulatory Authority as it pertains to investor protection.”

CISI Global Business Development director Kevin Moore said: “We are delighted to partner with the COI, the premier training college for insurance courses in East and Central Africa, working towards building capacity within the banking and insurance profession."

He went on, "This partnership is well aligned to our educational charitable objectives promoting dissemination of knowledge across the financial services profession."
