More suspects arrested in Chief, Police attack in Shariani, Kilifi

Two men were yesterday arrested in connection with an attack on security officials last Friday.

Kilifi County Commander Fredrick Ochieng' said the men were taken from their homes in Junju location.

“Two men aged 53 and 55 were arrested. This now brings the total number of all those arrested in relation to this incident to 15," said Mr Ochieng'.

"They will be arraigned in Shanzu, where they will be charged with various offences ranging from attempted murder to police obstruction."

Junju Senior Chief David Kahindi and a group of police officers were attacked and seriously injured by mourners when they tried to stop a funeral dance popularly known as 'disco matanga'.

The disco was at the home of Said Mwaganjoni during his funeral.

Chief Kahindi is still being treated at Jocham hospital in Mombasa County.

During the incident, Kuruwitu Assistant Chief Runya Mwalimu Runya and three police officers were also attacked.

They had minor injuries and were treated at Vipingo dispensary.

Ochieng' warned people who organised 'disco matanga' that they would face the full force of the law.

'Disco matanga' have been accused of contributing to increased cases of early pregnancies, especially among school girls.

They have also been associated with violent crime.
