Preparations for the sixth devolution conference underway

The county government has embarked on massive improvement of its road network and parking bays ahead of the forthcoming devolution conference in March.

The main highway from Sagana town through Kagio and Kutus towns up to Samson’s Corner is being widened to accommodate the expected increased traffic leading to the conference venue.

Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri (right) said parking bays in Kutus and Kagio towns were being improved.

“But even as we strive to improve the existing facilities, the 6,000 delegates expected to attend the conference must appreciate that this will be the first time such an event will be hosted by a rural county,” he said.

Briefing the press on the ongoing preparations, Mr Ndambiri said traders have been asked to start painting their business premises ahead of the conference.

He said those in the hospitality sector would be expected to provide high quality services during the five-day conference.

The official also said the traders were expected to register with the county, clearly indicating their location and number of rooms available for accommodation.

“Due to the inadequacy in hotels, some delegates will be accommodated in the neighbouring counties of Embu, Murang’a and Nyeri, which are not far away from the conference venue, hence the reason we are giving a retouch to the roads that connect us,” he said.

According to Ndambiri, the delegates will have an opportunity to visit the Mwea irrigation scheme, the nearby Mt Kenya forest and other tourist attraction sites in the area.

“They will also be able to visit the God’s bridge on the gigantic Nyamindi River whose natural architectural works are a mystery.”

The delegates will also visit coffee, macadamia and tea farmers scattered in the upper and middle zone of the county as well as those engaged in pond fish farming.
