Police in Bungoma have launched investigations into the abduction of Nzoia Sugar Company managing director, Michael Kulundu.

Mr Kulundu is said to have been kidnapped, tortured and left for dead by unknown assailants on Wednesday night.

Kulundu is said to have been kidnapped from a hotel along the Kanduyi-Webuye Highway.

He was rescued by a driver who took him to Bungoma West hospital in Kanduyi town.

According to Dennis Sande, a clinical administrator, Kulundu was taken to the hospital on Thursday morning where he was first admitted with serious injuries before being moved to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu for further treatment.

Multiple injuries

“Kulundu suffered multiple injuries on the head, a dislocated shoulder, cuts on the right hand, chest and lower limbs. We conducted a CT scan and the X-Ray, he is in a stable condition now but we have transferred him to Aga Khan Kisumu for specialised treatment," said Sande.

Nzoia Sugar Company Workers Union Secretary General Macdonald Wamacho and Bukembe East Ward MCA Joram Wanjala, who visited Kulundu at the hospital, condemned the kidnapping and assault and called on the police to quickly arrest suspects.

Wamacho claimed the attack could be linked to forces opposed to the privatization of the sugar mill.

"We understand there are brokers, those looking to eat from the company and those fighting the MD over privatization," he said.

Bungoma County Police Commander Francis Sang said investigations into the incident have been launched.
