Kilifi South MP Ken Chonga (pictured) and his Kilifi North counterpart Owen Baya have clashed over support for DP William Ruto and the 2022 governorship contest.

Mr Chonga and Dr Baya were both elected on an ODM ticket but Baya has since rebelled and declared support for Ruto who is eyeing the presidency.

Both MPs have shown interest in the 2022 governorship contest.

Chonga, who is allied to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, accused Baya of undermining him in Kilifi South and inciting rebellion against him because he had refused to join the DP's bandwagon

But Baya said he was not fighting Chonga, adding that he was not aware the Kilifi South MP wants to be governor.

Speaking at his home in Silala village in Chonyi when he issued cheques to 198 pupils who will join national schools next week, Chonga accused Baya of creating a rift between him and his Kilifi South constituents.

On December 19, Baya while accompanying the DP on a tour of Magarini, described Chonga as a "missing MP" allegedly sleeping on his job. Chonga did not attend the function

Although Chonga has not been very vocal about his politics and ambition, he was among the politicians who accompanied Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho when he went to pay a visit to former President Daniel arap Moi last year.
