Police are looking for a man said to have killed his wife after she bought herself “Christmas” shoes without his knowledge.
The man stabbed the woman to death at the Mawingo slums, before fleeing.
According to Tom Makuto, a neighbour, the two, in their 20s, had a heated quarrel over the shoes the woman had planned to wear on Christmas Day.
“The woman bought a pair of unisex shoes. When her husband arrived on Christmas morning, he wore them and left only to return the next day. His wife questioned him, but he turned on her,” said Mr Makuto.
West Pokot County Police Commandant Mathews Kuto said the woman was stabbed three times in the chest.
Neighbours took her to hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Separately, a disagreement at a family gathering in Kanyarkwat village left two houses and a maize store burnt, and several people injured.
Kuto said a man took a hoe and chased everyone from his home after he disagreed with his brother. “When he was done chasing everyone way, the man turned to the houses and burnt them. He then escaped,” he said.
