County, State clash over site for proposed KMTC

The county government and State have differed over the location of the proposed medical training college.

Governor Dhadho Godhana (pictured) wants the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), funded by Sharjah of United Arab Emirates, built at the proposed county headquarters in Dayate, and not in Hola.

But County Commissioner Oningoi ole Sosio has warned against shifting the college to another site.

The war between the county and national governments, which is threatening the project, came to light last week when the donor came to lay the foundation stone near the AP Lines but was restrained.

Some youths threatened the visiting team, claiming the proposed site belonged to the county government. Police were called in and they arrested the troublemakers.

According to a statement from to the governor’s press team, all new public utilities should be shifted to Dayate, which the county boss has declared the county headquarters.

The governor has earmarked the proposed the AP Lines site for recreational.

Project coordinator Bwanaidi Abdalaziz said the donor has no ill-motive, adding it wants to help the Government’s efforts to create more education facilities in the remote region.

“I don’t want to be drugged into the conflict between the two governments, ours is to help build the institution. We don’t have any political interests, we have to go on with the projects in county,” he said on the phone.

He said they expect the county to create an enabling environment for investors to transact projects in the county.

“The programme is a good idea, she should not create impediments for the donors wishing to establish initiatives for the community,” he added.

The KMTC college in Hola was initiated by the former county government and received overwhelming support from the then governor, Hussein Dado.
