ODM splashes Kshs180 million to acquire new offices – 2022 strategy

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has acquired new headquarters that is valued at Kshs180 million.

The party’s new head office is located in Lavington, a move that is said to be ODM’s rebranding strategy ahead of 2022 general election.

According to reports, the opposition party is said to have made a down payment of more than Ksh20 million and is expected to pay at least 60 per cent of the total cost before moving in by December 31.

According to a senior party official, plans were underway to start renovating the new headquarters in readiness for the relocation.

“Everything is going on as planned, and from this week we will start painting the building with our orange colour and have any other thing fixed. We are also shopping for new items like furniture and cabinets for the new offices,” he said.

The official went on to add that “The party is in the final stages of meeting all the contractual agreements before it finally becomes the owner of the property. This is not a lease like the current offices, but we are acquiring the property.”

The ODM party has been using Orange House headquarters in Nairobi’s Kilimani Estate since 2006 and it has remained party’s headquarters through three elections.

The Orange House is the commonly used venue for Raila’s critical meetings with other leaders and the organisation of crucial activities of the party.

The occupation of the premise is now set to end on December 31, 2018, according to ODM’s executive director Oduor Ong’wen.
