Striker signs five-year contract at Manchester

Manchester City and Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad until 2023.

The 21-year-old striker arrived in Manchester in the close-season winter transfer of 2017, January.

The diminutive Brazillian has gone on to score 24 goals in 53 games while donning the Cityzens sky blue jersey.

His ability to find the net propelled him to the limelight in his first six months at the club and was even selected for Europe’s young player of the season before losing out to then Monaco superstar Kylian Mbappe who PSG signed on an initial loan before making the deal permanent.

"I would like to thank the fans for the welcome and for how well they have treated me," he told the Manchester City official club website.

Regarded as Brazil's finest talent alongside Neymar and Coutinho, he was used by coach Tite as the Central Striker in Russia despite failing to find the back of the net across five games. 

Despite the blistering form of Argentine superstar Sergio Aguero, Jesus did just enough to convince coach Pep Guardiola that he deserves to start on a regular basis.

He is set to continue battling it out with Aguero for a starting berth this season in City's star-studded line up.

Guardiola looks set to successfully defend the title he won last term and Jesus will be one of the weapons he uses to destroy opponents.
