A section of Meru leaders has welcomed the appointment of a VC from outside the community to lead the Meru University of Science and Technology.
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed on Wednesday appointed Prof Romanus Odhiambo to head the varsity that has been grappling with clan politics amid student unrest.
“Prof Odhiambo has a lot of resource mobilisation experience as evidenced by his overseeing the laptop computer assembly plant at JKUAT, which gave birth to production of laptops for the government primary school computer programme,” said Dr Kilemi Mwiria, a former adviser to the Presidency on education.
Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders also applauded CS Amina for the appointment.
“We are happy and we believe now the operations at the university will run smoothly,” said the council Secretary-General Josphat Murangiri.
Senator Mithika Linturi said the community has hope in Prof Odhiambo and rallied for his support.
