Leaders, politicians, and businessmen close to National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition principal Raila Odinga want the newly formed pact with President Uhuru Kenyatta canceled. Led by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders including Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Kisumu counterpart Fred Outa, the group demands a suspension of the March 9 pact Miguna Miguna’s case is sorted.
Miguna Miguna, leader of NASA’s affiliate National Resistance Movement (NRM), was deported to Dubai on Wednesday last week just a day after his return from his first deportation. Miguna was first deported to Canada on February 8 following his participation in swearing-in Raila as the peoples’ president.
As reported by Nation, the leaders have informally asked Raila to back off his newly found pact with the president or he’ll be seen as part of any injustice committed by the ruling party Jubilee’s administration.
“Uhuru has to be held accountable now. Any engagement with him in any process would be an act of impunity because he is condoning the blatant and brazen defiance of court orders...,” Orengo said.
Apart from Miguna’s case, the leaders also want electoral injustices addressed and families of victims of the post-election crackdown by police compensated before working with president Uhuru.
Following a sour experience with GSU officers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) where he had gone to serve court orders to immigration officials who were detaining Miguna, Orengo argued that handshake between Uhuru and Raila is baseless.
“The handshake rises or falls on the pedestal of the rule of law, and if the State is out to undermine the rule of law, then it has no basis. The joint statement by the two also talked about rights and respect for the rule of law,” the Senator said.
