Chuka University in Tharaka Nithi County is mysteriously losing spoons at an alarming rate. The campus has so far spent huge amounts of money replacing lost spoons.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka in a memo dated February 16, raised concerns and directed the office of Dean of Students to take control of campus spoons.
The university’s administration and Chuka University Students Association have settled on allocating each student a spoon through the Dean of Students’ office. Each student is expected to take care of their spoon which they are expected to return when leaving the institution.
“The university has been incurring high costs in the replacement of spoons and other cutlery that are lost as students eat in dining hall (sic). A number of measures put in place in the past to address this problem have not been successful,” Prof Njoka wrote in the memo.
“Carry your ID for identification and ease the process of finding your name. Note that each student will be required to sign for their spoon on issuance and will be expected to return it at the time of clearing from the university,” Prof Njoka directed.
