Easy Coach asks transport authority to set up drivers re-training centres

Easy Coach Bus Company has asked the transport authority to set up re-training centres for drivers found with traffic offences.

 Chief Executive Azym Dossa said the centres should be located in all counties and should also perform basic health check-ups for drivers.

He said the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) should not come up with “knee-jerk” actions such as the ban on night travel during business peak, which inconveniences passengers and leaves companies counting losses.

 Mr Dossa said when the ban was imposed at the end of last year, they were forced to cancel all night bookings yet it was during the festivities and they had to cater for back-to-school travellers and those resuming work after the New Year.

At least 6,000 pre-booked tickets were cancelled, which took a toll on their service to clear the backlog.

 “We were not able to sell any new tickets, so our revenue since the ban has dwindled. This has a big effect on our income, more so considering that we do not increase fares to take advantage of the rush like many other PSV operators do,” said Dossa.
