Small-scale traders along a section of Mombasa Road woke up to a rude shock this morning; their businesses set up on the sideline of the busy highway were demolished by the Roads Authority in what the agency terms as an effort to clear illegal structures set up on the road reserve.
Traders along Syokimau to Mlolongo area were away when all this 'destruction' struck. They wonder why the government that is supposed to protect them has taken the front position to harass them.
According to the traders, there should have been a notice and an alternative operating area since the small businesses are where they fend for their families.
The affected traders are still wondering why the agency had to conduct what they term as 'destruction' late at night while they were away. Some of the structures demolished had their merchandise worth thousands of shillings.
According to the merchants, the government is very humble when seeking votes and very cruel after getting the votes.
