A postmortem examination on the body of the rugby player Mike Okombe reveals the player died from excessive bleeding.

The bleeding was caused by a knife stab on the left side of his chest on Saturday evening at around 10pm.

The postmortem was conducted yesterday at Valley Hospital in Nakuru attended by police officers, family members and pathologists.

According to pathologists, the player was also hit at the back of his head with a blunt object and had an injury on his back and multiple bruises.

The body also had a wound on his chest and cheek.

“The cause of death of the player was a knife stab that resulted in excessive bleeding. The wound on the chest was serious, (the knife) penetrated the inner tissues and damaged all the ligaments,” said Japheth Kioko Rongai OCPD.

The injuries on the head, however, did not affect his brain.

The officer said investigations were on and four suspects linked   had since been arrested and arraigned in court but they didn’t take pleas.

“The postmortem has been conducted and police officers are still conducting investigations to what the motive of the killers was,” he said.

The OCPD however was reluctant to speak give more details on the postmortem as the report was not shared, he said a comprehensive report will be out to the public later.

Okombe met his death at a birthday party organised by his girlfriend’s sister for her eight-year-old child at Kiamunyi, Nakuru.

Okombe played for Nakuru Top Fry Rugby Club. He played for Kenya Fifteens as an open side flanker.

The four suspects in his murder are Maryanne Mumbi (alleged wife), Calvin Okoth, Erick Mochache and Vincent Omondi who have appeared in court but have not taken pleas.
