Anti-IEBC protests in Nairobi on Wednesday, October 11

The Government has banned protests in the Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa town centres.

Announcing the ban in Nairobi on Thursday October 12 acting Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I’ said it was aimed at securing property.

Protests organised by the National Super Alliance to force reform in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC  have rocked the three towns.

The opposition accuses some of IEBC officials of bungling the August 8 presidential election in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta and wants them removed.

Dr Matiangí also directed the police to act on NASA Chief Operating Officer Norman Magaya for the destruction of property that happening in Nairobi October 6.

He said Mr Magaya had and dully notified the police of the protests, he was the organizer responsible for the eventuality.

Dr Matiang’í asked people who had lost property to record statements at the Central Police Station, Nairobi.

 Anti-IEBC protests have entered their third week with Wednesday’s demos in Niarobi being the biggest so far after NASA leader Raila Odinga and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka pulled out of a rerun presidential election to be held on October 26.

The development threw Kenya into a political tailspin with the move lending itself to different interpretations.

The ban comes in the wake of NASA’s announcement that the protests will happen daily.
