Anti-riot police officers were today forced to fire in the air and lob teargas to quell a group of chaotic protesters who had blocked and burnt tires on the road following the call for countrywide demos against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by the opposition leaders.

The demonstrations began on Monday 2 October morning accompanied by running battles between the police and a section of youths at Kondele area. Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Fred Ouda led the protests.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga had announced that they will carry out peaceful demonstrations every Monday and Friday to stop the amendment of the electoral law accusing the Jubilee government of attempting to alter the electoral laws for their own gains.
