Daystar University fire leaves comrades and locals homleless

The fire incident at Daystar off campus hostels (Sobemo) affected five students, 12 security guards and a few locals.

There were no casualties even though the victims lost property.

The university has offered accommodation and food to affected students like Juliet who narrated to The Nairobian how the fire left her shaken.

“I was at my house when the fire started, but my neighbours thought I had left for work at Motorcross, Lukenya,” she said.

Affected security guards and locals have been sheltered by their colleagues as they plan on their next move. “Together with some of my workmates, we took in the affected,” said Dickson Yongo a chef at the school’s cafeteria.

Karwitha Kirimi, a student leader thanked all students and staff who have assisted. The Daystar Christian Fellowship office is receiving material donation and a cash account has been opened.

“The cause of the fire is still not clear, we are not sure if it was an electric fault or a case of someone who left the candle burning.

We are working closely with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to find the root cause,” said Inspector Muriithi adding that, “I am still receiving donations from the locals. I am happy that we can come together for our brothers and sisters.”
