Elgeyo Marakwet county assembly speaker Albert Kochei has stepped down his bid to retain his position in the assembly days to the eve of his term.
The new speaker will be elected on Wednesday this week after swearing in of the Members of the county assembly (MCAs).
Speaking to a Ureporter on phone, Kochei confirms his exit in the highly competed seat leaving a chain of twenty Elgeyo Marakwet professionals thirst for the prestigious position.
The vocal leader is eyeing for the another job within the Jubilee government.
Kochei is now advising the incoming speaker to take time and examine the operations of the assembly. He is saying that the speaker's seat not only demands wit but also wisdom.
He promises that he is ready to support Elgeyo Marakwet county assembly achieve its vision through the election of the speaker and other staff who will embrace the virtue of teamwork.
Despite setting a good pace and foundation for Elgeyo Marakwet county assembly which was ranked number 3 nationally, the controversial Speaker ever faced myriad of setbacks and scandals ranging from him appearing in the EACC list of shame comprising of 175 public officers presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta in early 2015.
