NASA releases ‘leaked’ results with Raila ahead

NASA leaders on Thursday asked the electoral commission to suspend the release of provisional results.

They claimed that a confidential source at the IEBC had leaked results that showed that their presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, had garnered 8,041,726 votes while President Uhuru Kenyatta polled 7,755,428 votes.

The leaders said they had sent a letter to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati demanding that the commission stop transmitting provisional results that show President Uhuru Kenyatta leading with 8,056,885 against Raila’s 6,659,493.

During a press conference held in Nairobi, they demanded that Chebukati announce the presidential results based on Form 34A.

NASA’s chief agent, Musalia Mudavadi, explained that their figures were based on a confidential source at Bomas, whom he declined to name, citing security concerns.

When journalists asked to be shown the documents they alleged show Raila leading, Mudavadi said he had furnished Chebukati with the details and promised to share the hard copies with the media.

The Standard had not received the documents by the time of going to press.

Mudavadi faulted the IEBC transmission system, which he said seemed to follow a particular sequence with a progression of about 0.11, which gives results showing Uhuru stuck at 54 per cent.

“If you look at the results for the governor’s seat for Meru, Nairobi, Machakos, and even Kajiado, the trend is the same,” he said.

NASA said that given the importance and urgency of the matter, the IEBC should have by now informed the country of the outcome of investigations into reports of hacking.

“We have now received further information from confidential IEBC sources furnishing us with the actual presidential election results contained in their database,” said Mudavadi. “Based on the foregoing, we demand that the IEBC chairperson announce the presidential election results forthwith and declare Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga and His Excellency Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as the duly elected president and deputy president of the Republic of Kenya respectively.”

Mudavadi was accompanied by Raila, Kalonzo, senators James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, and MPs Junet Mohamed and Chris Wamalwa.

“IEBC is in a lot of problems. If you look at the decision of the Court of Appeal, presidential results are to be announced at local constituency level. Form 34A is supposed to be clearly displayed to the public,” said Orengo, adding that “IEBC is doing things the other way round.”
