Police says that Muthiani Muinde , 70, was hacked to death after accusations that he was practicing witchcraft in Nzaikoni village, Kalie in Makueni County with his wife seriously injured during the commotions.
Makindu based OCPD Hennirieta Wanyama confirming the arrest said that police since the killing had started investigations and already made two arrests.
“Two people suspected to have orchestrated the killing have been arrested and are helping us in the investigations”, said Ms. Wanyama.
The OCPD warned residents against killing the aged on allegations that they are sorcerers.
She added that the wife to the deceased was admitted to Makindu sub-county hospital and the body of the deceased taken to the hospital mortuary.
The area chief told the standard that the killing of suspected sorcerers in that region is rare.
“We have not had any of such cases before, this one found us unaware”, said Dominic Mbaluka, the area chief.
The chief claimed that a boy had pointed out that the deceased was a witch hence leading to the killing of the man and his property set on fire.
“We have a small boy who has been naming some individuals as sorcerers and this could have led to the killing of the old man”, said Muthiani.
In a span of two weeks two people have been killed in different parts of Makueni suspected of practicing witchcraft.
Grace Mwanza Musyoka, 65, from Mwende sub-location in Kisau location two weeks ago was rounded up by the community where they beat her to death and subsequently set her on fire with the body burning beyond recognition.
In a similar manner Grace was killed after a standard one boy pointed finger to her as the culprit behind his hysteria condition where the arsonists ensnared the home of the deceased according to police report.
