‘THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE SHOULD BE A CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT’

The much awaited presidential running mates debate organized by the media and other organizations seemed to be a disappointment to majority of Kenyans who were prepared to listen to their leaders present their manifestos. All praise went to Muthiora Kariara; the presidential running mate of Dr. Kaluyu after he presented himself for the debate.

The courage, manifesto and good presentation was all that everyone had to say about Kariara. Many Kenyan citizens now wish their leaders would follow the footsteps of the USA during election period, with a presidential debate as a must attendance forum. After the change of the Kenya constitution and introduction of devolution, they now think that it would be better if the presidential debate is also included in the Kenya constitution.

With aims of electing leaders of their choice and those who can bring change to the country, debate is the best way to take. If constitutionally required, it would mean that no presidential aspiring candidate shall no time snub the debates.

George Ouma a Kenyan voter, says that he is undecided on voting simply because he hasn’t got a clear manifesto from the leaders he wishes to elect come 8^th August 2017.

“Separation of facts from fiction that was to be done by our leaders was the way for us to know who the right leader for our nation is,” says George.

The road to clinching the Leadership positions however doesn’t stop as the campaigns are at the peak with only less than 20 days to election. George still has hope that the next week’s presidential debate to be held on 24^th July shall be successful with all aspirants’ attendance.
