Narc-Kenya Mathira MP Candidate George Warutere Thinwa has accused his political rivals of hiring goons to destroy his campaign posters.

Mr Warutere established that he was dismayed by the act as all the parliamentary candidates had pledged to have peaceful campaigns.

He said it was malicious to use gangs to deface his campaign posters.

“I am disappointed but this incident,” said the MP candidate.

He added that his counterparts are defeating that is why they are engaging in petty acts of vandalizing him.

The vandals tore the campaign banner which bore his images and election pledges.

The candidate said that he will not be cowed by the act and urged youth not to be misused by politicians during the campaign season.

“Those people who are doing this cannot be trusted as leaders and this should be an eye opener for Mathira votes,” Mr Warutere said.

He said that he had reported the matter to the police and that he is in touch with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Those who are eyeing the parliamentary seat include Rigathi Gachagua brother to the late Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua vying under the Jubilee ticket, Cliff Kiruta vying under the ODM ticket, Wambura Maranga and incumbent MP Peter Weru who are independent candidates.

It is an electoral offence for any candidate or agents of that candidate to deface or remove election materials for their opponents.

This is not the first case in the county; Jubilee Senator Candidate Eng Ephraim Maina has previously reported similar cases when his billboards were defaced.
