The August election is for NASA to win if they utilize the remaining time well

The National Super Alliance (NASA) which is the main opposition coalition facing the ruling coalition Jubilee has of late flustered the government. The government zealots prior to the naming of Nasa flag bearer said if Raila Odinga is nominated the flag bearer, Jubilee will not struggle to campaign. That it will be a field day for them. I dare them to go to Dubai for Ferrari Rally and come back after the elections if Raila is a walk over!

That narrative has since changed and the ground seem to be shifting so fast. Even the president and his Deputy are spending sleepless nights to counter the Raila cum Nasa influence in their backyards. They thought they had their support base intact only to realize that it was shifting slowly. Even if they do not vote for Raila, they could avoid voting which is a plus for Nasa.

The discontent in the backyards of the President and his Deputy is not anything to wish away as this may immensely affect them. That is why they have taken a lot of time to convince their supporters and hurriedly launch even non-existent projects and waive loans.

What was never done in the last four years, apparently the Deputy President during the launch of Jubilee manifesto said they will all be done in the next three months. Kenyans are now clever than 2013 and will not buy such lies.

The President and his Deputy are on record saying that they have constructed 10,000 kilometers of roads. However, in their 2017 manifesto, they say only around 1,800 Kilometres are done and 7,000 launched and ongoing. How did they get this courage to lie and mislead the Kenyan people? Jubilee has literally deviated greatly from its flowery 2013 manifesto of promising heaven on earth.

It is true as the Nasa motto says that “Mambo Yabadilika” they have realized that the Kenyan people are clever than they thought. They have changed. When the incumbent try to whip emotions by reinventing the 2013 ICC (International Criminal Court) narrative, then things are not well. But it’s backfired on them. Now they have embarked on launching everything everywhere they go and demeaning their opponents. This’ desperation on the incumbency.

The people both from the ruling coalition and the opposition feel the pinch of the cost of living and they are likely to try a change by voting Raila Odinga. The fear some voters from Mt. Kenya region have had for Mr. Odinga seem to be waning briskly. Unfortunately, the President also deemed RAO as a man who will destroy this country should his people fail to turn out and vote.

On the other side, the Nasa five supremos are busy selling their agenda to the people and why they should be elected. Their confidence of winning cannot be underrated. There’s good will from the people of Kenya that Nasa is likely to win this elections unless they betray that good will in the remaining days.

This election being probably the last for Mr. Odinga, he’s taking nothing for granted. As he’s been saying he has remained with one bullet, it is for his life. A police officer told me that there’s no dangerous officer in a mission like the one with one bullet. He never shoots easily and if he does, it’s on target. And perhaps that is why the incumbent is suddenly in a trepidation mood.

The cost of living especially the food crisis has in many countries caused regime change and that is the fear. Despite the hurried importation of duty free maize and release of subsidized flour to the markets, people are not certain of the day after the election should Jubilee win.

Therefore, there’s a calm wave of change that is blowing across the country and people are deviating from the tribal politics to issue based politics. If development cannot provide food for a common mwananchi then it is a misplaced priority. A quick read at the Nasa manifesto reverberates well with the desires of the common Kenyan if actually it will be lived.
