President Uhuru lands in Ukambani with goodies

President and his deputy keen to slice chunk of region’s votes from NASA as they head to Machakos and Makueni.

President Uhuru Kenyatta began his campaign tour of Ukambani with the launch of a Sh1.4 billion water project in Kalonzo Musyoka’s Mwingi backyard.

The project, which is being funded by the Kenyan and Italian governments, will provide water to more than 150,000 residents in Kyuso and Tseikuru among other parts of the larger Mwingi Sub-county.

Speaking during the launch of the project, dubbed Kiambere-Mwingi Water Supply and Sanitation Project, President Kenyatta said the Government will continue to serve Kenyans equally in spite of political affiliations.

“My administration has initiated development projects that have direct impact on the lives of Kenyans across the country as part of our transformative agenda for this great nation,” he said.

“The Government has put in place resources and mechanisms aimed at ensuring that Kenyans get access to clean water in their homes for domestic and irrigation purposes.”

Accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, the President also addressed rallies in Kyuso, Nguni and Mwingi towns.

Uhuru said the Government has also started tarmacking the 35-kilometre Kamuongo-Kyuso-Tseikuru road.

LARGE MARGIN

“When we are busy engaging in development projects, our colleagues in the Opposition are criticising our projects, yet they have nothing to show for their time in government,” said President Kenyatta.

Other leaders present included Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu, MPs Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central), John Munuve (Mwingi North), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South), Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

The President asked Kitui residents to ignore leaders who engage in empty rhetoric and elect those keen on providing essential services like water, roads, electricity and access to education.

The Head of State said he was confident that Jubilee will win by a larger margin in the August 8 elections.

“We won in 2013 despite our colleagues who are now in Opposition running the government then and the fact that we were faced with ICC cases. Do you think they will defeat us now?’ asked President Kenyatta.

Mr Ruto told the Kamba community to embrace Jubilee which he said will win the elections.

He said NASA had re-assembled corruption cartels dismantled by Jubilee to fund its campaigns.

“Opposition leaders are now working with the corruption cartels that Jubilee disassembled to finance their campaigns. They now intend to use the same cartels to come up with scandals like the Anglo Leasing if they win the next elections,” said the DP.

WINNING TEAM

The MPs asked residents to support Jubilee because it has the interest of the Kamba community at heart, saying those in Opposition had no agenda for the region and the country.

“We are grateful that Jubilee has started tarmacking on our roads, connected us to electricity and has initiated several water projects,” said Mr Munuve.

Sonko cautioned the Kamba community against sticking with the Opposition, saying it will offer the region nothing.

“Opposition leaders will just use you as a ladder to achieve their selfish ends. It’s time we reconsider our support for them and join Jubilee because this is the winning team,” said the Nairobi governor hopeful.

Mr Mutambo said residents of Mwingi have the Jubilee government to thank for the electricty connections to their homes.

“The Kamba community has decided that it will rally behind the leadership of President Kenyatta and the Jubilee team,” he said.
