Little known Kenyan female Marathoner, Joan Jepchirchir Kigen, has defended her position in Iten Marathon 3rd edition with less time off her previous time record.
The low attended Marathon was held on Sunday 25th June 2017 in Iten town.
Joan Kigen hit the finishing line in 2:44:29 ahead of Janet Jeruto-2:51:05 and Davina Jepkosgei-2:52:00, who garnered position two and three respectively.
The 40-year-old Joan Kigen never managed to beat the time of 2:34:55 she ran in the second edition of the same marathon following what she termed under-preparedness.
“I was not prepared for this race but I was only called by the management to defend my title time, so I am happy even though I never beat the previous time,” She told Ureporter in Iten town, Kenya.
She expressed that she was still resting after running 2017 Madrid Marathon held April this year in Spain where she ran the second position in 2:34:41.
Meanwhile, Evans Sambu led the men’s in 2:20:35 closely followed by Victor Kipchirchir in 2:21:29 and Jackson Kipkorir who got position three in 2:22:21.
Evans Sambu improved his time from the previous 2:16:13 in 2016 where he held position two in the same Marathon.
Emmanuel Bor led the men in half Marathon in 1:65:20 while on the other hand Joy Kemuma tops women half Marathon in 1:78:30 far from her counterpart Celestine Jepchirchir who finished position two in 1:80:35.
