Among the presidential candidates in the country, only NASA’s Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta have paid the Sh400, 000 each as music licensing fee as required by the law for them to play music in their campaigns.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko is the only gubernatorial race candidate that has also complied with the Kenya Association of Music Producers and the Performers Rights Society of Kenya having paid Sh150, 000.

PRISK chief executive Angela Ndambuki confirmed that most aspirants had ignored the requirement and yet they had gone down with the deadline by two weeks.

Politicians yet to comply could find themselves in the wrong hands should they play music on their campaign trucks.

She confirmed that MCAs were the most compliant with none of the sitting governors and several seeking to unseat them ignoring the directive.

PRISK is expected to publish the names of those who have act in accordance with the law before sending their enforcement officers to those taking the legal requirement lightly.
