Pareno, Agnes Zani and 10,000 Jubilee, ODM leaders scramble for 800 positions

As the deadline set for party nominations nears, over 10,000 leaders most of whom lost in party primaries are hunting for the 800 slots allocated for the parties.

There are 12 slots in the national assembly, 20 in the senate and 774 for county representative nominees.

Jubilee party has received 6,020 applications and the Secretary General Raphael Tuju has said their processing was to start anytime soon before the June 24 deadline.

Tuju said that the exercise will be based on gender and people living with disabilities.

ODM party on the other has so far received close to 1200 applications with a number of them making multiple applications for both the national assembly and senate openings for representation.

Among those sources have revealed were to be nominated are ODM Party Secretary General Agnes Zani and the party’s national elections board boss Judy Pareno whose name parliamentarians and primaries losers threatened to shoot down from the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

On Monday, yesterday the ODM elections boss Judy Pareno was found guilty of contempt for not tallying results in disputed Muhoroni constituency Member of Parliament nominations and the Chief Justice David Maraga was to give directions.

Ayiecho Olweny contested the results of the ODM nominations in Muhoroni Constituency against incumbent James K'oyoo.

Ms Pareno however failed to appear in court and instead sent a representative in the matter which ODM party was also not represented in court.

Other who have sent twin appeals to the party not to leave them in the cold are the Kisumu Women Representative Rose Nyamunga who lost to Rosa Buyu in the ODM primaries and is now seeking nomination to the Senate or the National Assembly.

She has applied for the two chances just like her Kakamega County counterpart Rachael Amolo.

Other parties affiliated to the NASA coalition have also revealed that they were receiving overwhelming applications some of whom are those from those who lost in MCA nominations.
