A number of Kenyans have reacted differently to the major announcement made on Wednesday. Maina Kageni surprisingly announced that he will be vying for Nairobi Women Representative seat in the forthcoming August polls.
To many, this announcement came as a shocker while others especially women welcomed the move saying that that was the best decision he made and should go for the seat.
“Being a woman representative doesn't mean you have to be a woman, it needs someone who can defend the rights of a woman through thick and thin, and mostly men do this defending better than how women do, so great step Maina,” posted Dhonne Cencious.
“Go go Maina , am behind you 100 per cent. The best decision to make, women need a man to represent them in this city.No discrimination, no mood swings, no partiality, no emotions, good listener, men will always make the best leaders, no drama, etc.My constitution didn't have any man to challenge it on women rep position, great you are a brave one.Now I have a candidate. Count my vote!” posted Elena Gachomo
According to Dickson Kirui Maina, Maina Kageni will lose the race terribly because he has been fighting men on radio.
He also reminded him that the current Women Rep Rachel Shebesh has done some remarkable developments in Nairobi and she still has tens of thousands of those who nominated her and those who voted for her during the last election. On the other hand, Esther Passaris has her own crowd and policies which will be also a challenge to him.
Francis Wachiuri Kaguongo faulted IEBC for clearing Maina to vie for this seat. According to him, it is illegal.
“This seat is a preserve for women of all ages. Unless you have scientific prove that Maina Kageni is a woman. And if he is, indeed a she, he has taken Kenyans into a long route of lies,” said Kaguongo.
Some people didn't take it seriously. To them, they saw it as his strategy of advertising weaves.
“This must be a joke Maina. Not unless you are literally advertising the weave. No man can vie for any women rep post.It is against the constitution and it has been reserved for women only,’ said Princess Jackie.
Meanwhile according to African polls if elections were conducted right now Maina will carry the day with 49 per cent votes, followed by Esther Passaris with 32 per cent and Rachel Shebesh will come a distance third with 19 per cent.
