Kisumu Medical and Education Trust (KMET) in partnership with Stanbic Bank on Friday afternoon, commemorated Menstrual Hygiene Management day by distributing reusable sanitary pads to 250 girls both from Magadi primary and Magadi Mixed Secondary schools in Manyatta slum, Kisumu County.
Stanbic Bank Marketing Manager, Mr. David Wasamba pledged continued partnership to ensure girl child education is promoted. “The basic kit for any girl is a sanitary pad, many girls from slums are not able for afford Sanitary pads and that the reason we have partnered with KMET to bring a sustainable product for the girls.” He added.
Speaking during the event that was held at Magadi Primary School, KMET CEO, Monica Oguttu lamented that many girls due to strict economic conditions opt for materials such as pieces of mattresses, soil, cow dung or cotton wools during their monthly cycles and this leaves them with infections. “To help keep the girls in school, KMET came up with Comfort reusable sanitary pads that last for one year.” She added.
Kisumu East Sub-county Reproductive health coordinator, Elizabeth Onyango while speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Health applauded the efforts made by the partners to help keep girls in school. She further alluded that the distributed pads would have a great impact in the menstrual hygiene of the beneficiaries.
The Magadi Secondary school Guidance and Counselling teacher, Beatrice Wanga applauded the partners for commemorating the day by giving back to the society. She noted that 3-4 students at the school miss classes daily while on their periods. “We project an improvement in performance both in the primary school and secondary school.
