Raila billboard vandalized in Kisii

Unknown people on Monday night destroyed a billboard erected by Kisii County governor James Ongwae.

The billboard bearing portrait of the Governor and that of the ODM party leader Raila odinga was vandalized in a motive that is yet to be established as both leaders are yet to comment on the act.

The governor erected billboards in Kisii town ahead of last week’s Gusii stadium rally that was used to dismiss the perception that the region was swing vote area.

Govenor Ongwae recently announced having chosen to retain Joash Maangi as his running mate as they seek to retain the positions in the August elections.

Mr Maangi had earlier on defected to Jubilee Party and was labelled as a close associate of the Deputy President William Ruto from the time he led a delegation of leaders from the county to a visit to the DP’s residence.

He made he recently returned to the opposition camp and was afterwards announced as Ongwae’s running mate, a move that has received criticism.

Jubilee will field Senator Chris Obure for the gubernatorial seat against the incumbent Ongwae.

The county has registered the highest number of aspirants for various positions in the general elections.
