Jubilee Party delegates were locked in the office for a good part of the day long-awaited by the party nominees to receive their certificates.
Elgeyo Marakwet county Jubilee Party delegates had a tough time on Saturday to convince five matatu drivers who the party owed Sh 200, 000 transport toll.
The party had contracted them to transport the clerks and presiding officers during the past Jubilee nominations exercise.
The drivers from Keiyo north sub-county blocked the Jubilee party office gate before storming into ongoing meeting ahead of the low-attended Jubilee Party fete staged in Iten town grounds.
They accused the chair to the Elgeyo Marakwet county Jubilee Party Election Board, Dr. Sally Kimosop.
Dr. Kimosop who arrived at the meeting later landed on fire as the peasants directed hard questions to her following the delay in the payments.
The situation was worsened by the flaw that emanated from the contradicting voices between the chair lady’s sentiments to that of the county party coordinator, Barnabas Lagat whom the drivers had been consulting him.
However, it was a sigh of relief for the tongue tied officials after the county governor and party nominee, Eng. Alex Tolgos intervened and rescued them
The suffocated delegates termed it as a slight mess but thanked God for the bulldozing hand that reached their aid.
Finally, the five daring drivers who presented the grievances walked away with the lump sum, paving way for the officials to attend the function.
Meanwhile, the party had postponed the function in Elgeyo Marakwet following what the stakeholders said it was a technical hitch.
The meeting was held in Iten Resort on Saturday, the day the party had planned to give certificates to their nominees, reached the conclusion of postponing the function on a stand that the party had not processed the precious document enough for all the aspirants.
The day ended half feted as 22 nominees comprising 20 for Members of county assembly (MCA), Governor and women representative received their certificates in the evening function.
