Governor hopeful Kilemi Mwiria has promised to transform the county within three years if he is elected in the August 8 elections.
Speaking in Michaka, Buuri sub-county, the former assistant minister said he would apply the skills he used while serving in the Education Ministry to boost agriculture and infrastructure.
“I was an MP and an assistant minister for 10 years. My record is very clear and the developments l made are visible. If elected, l will lift the livelihood of the poor by creating avenues for empowerment.
“I will ensure that in my three years in office, l have settled the water shortage issue in the county. Every ward will get a water rig machine. My government will also ensure all the people get electricity in their homesteads at a subsidised fee,” said Dr Mwiria
He added that he has given education a priority in his manifesto.
He promised to build a potato processing factory in zones that grow the tuber and also to lobby the national government to partner with the county government to construct a modern agricultural university in the county.
Mwiria accused his main rivals, incumbent Governor Peter Munya and Senator Kiraitu Murungi, of failing to transform the county and instead concentrating their attention on fighting each other instead delivering services to the people.
He claimed the two rigged him out in 2013.
“In the 2013 elections, the two, who were in the same alliance, rigged me out. I wonder why the two in-laws are now fighting over who should manage the county purse. I don’t think they have the interests of the people at heart,” said Mwiria, who got 180,273 votes to Munya’s 184,273 in the 2013 gubernatorial race.
