On Monday, Sonko posted a video on Facebook that was recorded by a smuggler in the Middle East.
The video showed a man whose chest had been sliced open living him for the dead. The man can be seen breathing his last, lungs open, heart expanding and contracting until he died.
“The Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has on several occasions warned the public against the recruitment of our Kenyan citizens for quick jobs in the Middle East and Asia. This morning, I received a very disturbing video from a Kenyan in Asia and I thought it wise to share the message I received together with the video of the same,” posted Sonko.
A section of Kenyans on social media interpreted the message to mean that Sonko was trying to prevent Kenyans from travelling abroad so that they can vote for him in the forthcoming General election.
“Pure lies in the name of keeping people in Kenya ndio wawapigie kura, you think we are fools, we are diasporas in Asia why haven’t we experienced that, this has made me change my mind never to vote for you, how can you brainwash people so that they cannot travel overseas to look for jobs, so that they can vote for you, and if it’s true, what has the government done to stop this acts, “posted Calvin Jahazi Sava.
Ibrahim Brown told Sonko not to post everything he receives and asked him to weigh first, verify the authenticity of video or document then share wisely leaving out the graphical images.
Elijah Kiambati said that Sonko who forms part of the government had a role to play in ending the sufferings of Kenyans in foreign countries when they travel abroad to seek for greener pastures. He further said that the government should close down all recruiting agencies and stop registering them.
“You should be ashamed of yourself and your government, create employment for the youth, and stop giving them handouts in 'philanthropic' acts, turning them into dependants so that they worship you,” said Edwin Eddie.
Lepatro Mwamba on his part said that he doesn’t blame the desperate Kenyans for trying to make ends meet and said that he blames the government.
“Shame on you Sonko for this message, you are in the kitchen where everything good and bad is cooked, you are a good guy but God is watching you and I pray you fail come August 8,” said Mwamba.
