Many people say that politics is a dirty game because there are no rules to ensure fair play. It is not a game of chess played in an air-conditioned and silent atmosphere. It is a mixture of many games including kickboxing, shadow fighting, fencing, hide and seek, gorilla war, shoot and scoot, rope walking, gymnastics, pole vaulting and many more.
The former SONU chair got himself mixed up in the political game as he was seeking the ODM ticket during the Embakasi East ODM primaries.There was a lot of propaganda that was used against Babu Owino in a bid to edge him from the contest.
First and foremost there was a romour which was going round claiming that Babu Owino was not a resident of Embakasi East.Babu Owino denied the claims and said that he was in a was a resident of Embakasi East who lived in Donholm.
Secondly, there was also an allegation of Babu Owino vowing to take up the leadership of Embakasi East through the ballot or the bullet. There eas Somebody by the name Omwenga Utawala who claimed that he was attacked by goons believed to working for Babu Owino.
“Today I have witnessed that he want to take it through the bullet because I was attacked by his youth when I went to give my evidence to the tribunal on irregularities we experienced during the nomination.His boys wanted to beat me in front of police officers but I had to run for my dear life at Gracia Apartment,” posted Omwenga.
Thirdly there was a fake press statement that circulated in Embakasi East alleging that Babu Owino had been disqualified from Embakasi East ODM primaries. The fake press statement purportedly signed by ODM Director of Communication Mr. Philip Etale who denied signing such a document in an official statement through his official social media handles.
Babu Owino had to reassure his supporters that he was still in the race and that the fake press statement was a propaganda by his opponents who wanted him out of the race.
“I would love to take this opportunity to assure my supporters that I have not been disqualified from Embakasi East ODM primaries, we are in the race and we will win tomorrow. The aforementioned statement should be treated as propaganda and an open show of cowardice by my opponents,” said Babu
Babu Owino managed to get 6093 votes while his opponents got the following votes in order of merit Bosire: 1028 votes, Francis Masinde: 1200 votes, Bhutto: 892 votes, Omwenga: 555 votes, Mosoti: 53 votes, and Manyasi: 43 votes.
