Jubilee scorecard good, but it has huge holes

I’m one of the people who take policy statements, political pronouncements, budgetary measures, development plans and their implementation by the government among other things very seriously.

This is not borne out of interest in politics but I have work to do regarding all this in terms of advisory to other people and organisations. I have keenly checked on Jubilee highlighted achievements and being a keen observer I have a few observations.

There are areas I laud the Jubilee government for achieving. May I start with the biggest signature, the Standard Gauge Railway. With all the attendant challenges and allegations I’m of the view this venture though it ended ballooning our debt was the right step.

It is strange that we could dream of developing over the past years without an efficient and cheaper way of transporting goods and even people. This project is certainly a game changer. There are other areas Jubilee has tried to bring development such as the Huduma

This project is certainly a game changer. There are other areas Jubilee has tried to bring development such as the Huduma centres and the cheaper electrification for all. The management of the Somalia crisis which had eluded the Western world to secure our country is another one. An unstable Somalia is a threat not just to her neighbours but to the whole world.

But there are areas surely I would have expected Jubilee to do better. Some of these are tackling corruption, ethnicity, Insecurity in many parts of the country like Baringo County , unemployment and management of critical resources such as forests and wildlife among others. I have strongly advocated for technology and exploits of foreign exports to tame the mess and I will keep doing it. Well on matters management of economy, Jubilee has managed to a level to contain some of the problematic areas such as interests rates. However, cost of living is slowly becoming a problem.

With Kenya seemingly having a problem with weather patterns (effects of climate change) food may become a problem to many. I hope we could get to a situation where Kenya develops and politics of hate cease. But as long as we are poor with scanty resources politics will keep getting uglier.
