Nandi County Senator Stephen Arap Sang has outlined his key achievements during his four-year stint at the Senate.
While outlining his successes at the Senate, Sang who is eyeing the Nandi gubernatorial seat, said he is has performed well at the first Nandi Senator under the new dispensation and that he is ready for the new assignment as Governor.
"Senate mission accomplished. Ready for the next Assignment. Governorship here we come!"Sang posted on his social media pages.
In his comprehensive report dubbed ‘My track record in the Senate’, Sang compiled a successful list of accomplishments which include his legislative role, monitoring and oversight and his individual social responsibility.
The legislator said since he was elected he has fully sponsored 23 needy and very deserving students from across the county who are in primary, secondary, tertiary institution from his own pocket.
He said as a Senator he had worked hard to ensure increased funding to Nandi County. He noted that the allocation to the county has since risen from Sh3.4 billion in the 2013/14 financial year to close to Sh5.2 billion in the 2016/17 financial year.
Senator Sang said in his role as the representative of Nandi County together with other lawmakers from the county to negotiate for an allocation of 220 Kilometers of new tarmac in the county and the equipping Kapsabet County Referral hospital and Nandi Hills sub-county hospital.
"We also pushed for the establishment and allocation of resources for the Koitalel Samoei university, re-carpeting of various roads within the county, implementation of the 35 milk coolers project, Keben and Nandi Hills mega water projects, issuance of Title Deeds to various squatters and the establishment of Huduma Centre in Kapsabet town,"noted Sang.
He also sought to outline his unmatched legislative record which saw him play a key role in the passage of six bills which include; County Development Boards Act, County Statutory Instruments Bill, County Hall of Fame Bill, County Assembly Services Bill, Office of the County Printer Bill, County Government Amendment Bill, Office of County Attorney Bill and the County Boundaries Review Bill.
Sang sought to clarify that the County Development Boards Act popularly known as the 'Sang bill' was aimed at establishing a platform for county leaders to work together in prioritizing development projects and ensure that there is no duplication and mismanagement of county funds.
"The bill also provided a peer review and accountability mechanism among leaders. However, the implementation of this law was blocked in court by the council of governors, “he said.
The county senator pointed out that he also presented petitions over a health crisis in Nandi County and a petition on historical injustices against the Talai clan which is currently under consideration by the Senate Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights.
Sang further said he was part of a senate committee which had been tasked with the establishment of the county monitoring and oversight mechanism and the drafting of the necessary regulations to operationalize the same.
On his leadership role at the Senate, Sang said apart from being a member of the Speakers panel he also served as the chairperson of the Sessional Committee on Delegated Legislation, Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights and a representative of Kenyan Parliament in the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU).
