Kanu welcomes over 40 defectors

Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat has said matters relating to aspirants seeking various elective positions would be handled at the party’s head office in Nairobi.

Speaking at the party headquarters after receiving over 40 defectors from various political parties on Thursday, Mr Salat promised that Kanu would conduct free and fair nominations.

“Kanu has candidates in every part of this country. However, other people who masquerade as our party leaders have opened local offices in some parts of the country. We do not want to leave out any candidate,” he said.

The defectors from Bungoma, Marsabit and Trans Nzoia counties expressed joy in joining Kanu citing unfair treatment in their former political parties.

They were optimistic that the nominations will be transparent and free of anomalies.

“We will approach the forthcoming General Election in a strong manner. Kanu will be a bigger house after the polls. We welcome more defectors from other parties to join us,” said Salat who reiterated that they will support re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Among those who joined Kanu include Hussein Golicho Roba, who is seeking to unseat Jubilee Governor Godana Doyo of Isiolo.

“Leaders should seek leadership positions to serve the people but not for personal gain. My team is composed of aspirants from different communities and will be key in ensuring peace that has been elusive in northern Kenya,” he said.

Woman Representative aspirant in Marsabit County Elizabeth Leitoro said she wants to defy ethnicity that has often led to election of incompetent leaders.
