Wajir county health workers down their tools demanding better pay

Health workers in Wajir County Referral Hospital downed their tools on Monday 20th February and took to the streets.

The workers complained about poor welfare services at the hospital. Armed with placards and huge banners, they criss crossed Wajir town as they sang solidarity songs.

The striking health workers accused the health department top chiefs and the county Governor of neglect and discrimination.

"We pleaded with the department officials severally and even sat with the governor. They refused to hear our plight. We felt we should take our demands to the streets for the people to judge" said one of the official.

The official also said that there are a lot of intimidations to an extend that if found they are not allowed to air their grievances leave alone talking to the media.

Attempts to reach the health department chiefs and the Governor were futile as they neither received calls nor replied to texts.
Services at the county Referral Hospital are paralysed as patients remained unattended to.
