EMBRACE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY DURING THIS VALENTINE.

It is ideal that a high percentage of people who in January were penniless as a result of the December over spending have high hopes of redeeming themselves financially in this month of Love.

Every year 14th of February is marked by Lovers as a day of revitalizing their Love and their relationship in general.

 In African countries, a majority of people may not have a glimpse of the name behind Valentine and its history and thus celebrate it blindly.

 According to Wikipedia “St Valentine was a 3rd-century Martyr. His feast day was the same as the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia, which resulted in the association between Valentine's Day and love.

All that is reliably known of the saint commemorated on February 14th is his name and that he was martyred and buried at a cemetery on the Via Flamini close to the Ponte Milvio to the North of Rome on that day.
During this month, prestigious hotels and restaurant will be fully booked; flowers, chocolates and other flashy stuff given by lovers will also be in high demand.

On this day the love is at the peak, one wonders why the same zeal is not portrayed during other days. In the Christian perspective, Christian love is selfless; it is giving to others without expecting something in return. It is having respect for others, its mercy, and charity.

Indeed Christian love should be Agape meaning “God’s love” or “Charity”. It should be unconditional, love which has no limit. Essentially it should be a love of helping and doing charity work.

For many years we have borrowed the western culture which embraces giving our loved ones' flowers, chocolate, and other glitzy gifts just to make them happy, this gifts sometimes fade and the love ends and they are of no use “change is like rest” its high time that we express our love in diverse means, a visit and give a hug to a child with disability, sick person in the hospital, donating food to the drought-stricken areas is a noble idea.

This act may seem awkward to many but indeed its worth. This portrays the Christian growth and unity among believers as the bible says in the book of Ecclesiastes 7:2 “it is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting.”

We the living should take this to our hearts as we remember those who are sick, drought-stricken, lost their loved ones and the less fortunate in our society.

It is good to hear institutions that deal with children who are abled differently organizing an event just to appreciate and show love to them, indeed it is a gallant and unique idea purposed to embrace and express love to the children who in most cases are snubbed because of their conditions.
