Are the youths ready to take over leadership in our country?

I have been a strong crusader on the need for the youth to grab opportunities that are present in our country. I am a strong believer on the capabilities of our youths to deliver and steer this country in the right direction both politically and economically.

On the business front, there has been a significant rise in the number of youths that are making headlines in terms of their outstanding achievements. This has been made possible by the fact that most of these business oriented youths have been able to endure the tough business front and emerge victorious in their fields.

On the political arena, the youths have time and again tried their best to infiltrate the field controlled by the well established and moneyed individuals and it seems that they are slowly making inroads in this field. Currently, we can boast of a number of youthful legislators both in the national assemblies and the county assemblies respectively.

It can, however, be noted that a lot still needs to be done to ensure that youths are actively involved in our country's political and business arenas. The introduction of the 30% procurement rule by the government whereby every government institutions are required by law to reserve at least 30% of its budget for special groups women, youths and persons with disability) has in some way enabled more youths to do business with the government. This effort should be praised by all.

What the government should ensure is that all the rules that have been set aside are adhered to by all institutions and that all these special groups are paid on time to ensure that their enterprises thrive and compete effectively with well established ones.

The government should also ensure that the youth are educated on the need of taking leadership both in politics and business. They should ensure that the youths are educated on the need to take part in decision making in our country and being able to steer the country into economic growth and political stability.

It is up to the youth of our country to engage the government and ensure that they are listened to. They should remember that no one gives freely and that every aspect of our growth as individuals or as a country solely depends on how the youth of this country fight for their economic and political space.
