Seven Congolese women arrested over child trafficking in Siaya

Police have Saturday morning arrested seven Congolese women in Siaya County over suspicion of child trafficking.

The seven were found with 10 children aged between one month and six years old in a remote residence at Sinaga, according to Siaya County Commissioner Josephine Onunga.

They are being held at the Sinaga police station as officers launch investigations into the matter.

“They were arrested today at 7am at a house owned by a woman who runs a hotel business at Sinaga and are being questioned by police,” she said.

Onunga said police were also investigating if there were other people, the hotelier harbouring the aliens included, who may have been part of the alleged child trafficking syndicate.

This was the second time Congolese nationals were being arrested within the same locality.

Last year, Onunga said, illegal immigrants from Congo were arrested in Ugunja with Kenyan children.
