The mass voter registration that started on Monday has undeniably been characterised by low turnout. Many potential voters have given registration centres a wide berth.

As a result, politicians have come up with outrageous ways of intimidating Kenyans to register. In some areas, we have heard it suggested that unregistered voters should be barred from buying goods from shops.

Mombasa Woman Rep Mishi Mboko's plea to women to boycott sex if their partners have not registered is the most outrageous. Such statements are not only uncalled for but are offensive.
