President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga joined the African National Congress of South Africa in mourning Kenyan academician Rok Ajulu. Prof Ajulu is the husband of Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu.
ANC announced that Ajulu died on Monday, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. President Kenyatta described him as a distinguished scholar who was courageous and intelligent. Mr Raila said Kenya had lost one of its best brains that served the country as well as international struggles for democratic space.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa sent a condolence message to media, describing Ajulu as a Kenyan internationalist and veteran of the struggles of the African people. “The ANC has learnt with sadness the passing of Prof Ajulu, a staunch and committed supporter of Pan Africanism and internationalism.” The family is planning to bring the body back to Kenya for burial in Bondo Constituency.
