As the country approaches August 8th general elections, a lot is developing especially among political parties and alliances. Opposition leader Raila Odinga is now hinting on working with Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi, a move that is causing tension in Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) coalition.
CORD co-principal and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has already held a meeting with Mr. Odinga over his working with Musalia Mudavadi. This is an indication that other CORD principals will face it rough when the said opposition super alliance will be formed to unseat the incumbent regime.
Mudavadi's presence in CORD coalition cannot be underestimated as currently, he is a political figure commanding Luhya vote. This leaves Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula in dilemma as his popularity in the region is also in question.
Other Luhya leaders like Budalang'i legislature and Labour party leader Ababu Namwamba has since lost his political supremacy after he quit Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and even resigned as ODM secretary general. As if it is the law in Luhya politics that in case you go against Mr. Odinga politically, you will be digging your own political grave.
Kalonzo Musyoka has also raised concerns over the same matter. He is afraid that Mudavadi may be the preferred running mate for Mr. Odinga which automatically places him as number two in the coalition. This will leave Mr. Musyoka with nowhere to go, already in Jubilee, everything has been taken.
But politically everything is possible, he will have to tread his political foray keenly so that he doesn't betray his Kamba voters. Furthermore, he has to play his cards well before it is too late. His quest to have CORD declare its presidential candidate is to establish whether he will be left out so that he can make his next move.
Kalonzo Musyoka may part ways with Raila Odinga, something he did in 2007 general elections. He should not be despised as CORD enjoyed massive support in Ukambani in March 2013 general elections, an election that saw Uhuru Kenyatta emerge victorious after a supreme court ruling.
Furthermore, the next general maybe similar to 2002 general elections where National Rainbow Coalition was formed to dethrone KANU, a tactic that worked. As such it will be wise for Kalonzo Musyoka to stay put in Raila's camp before, during and after polls.
