I can only sponsor a project, not a human being-Akothee

She’s known for her flamboyance and an ingrained sense of pride only matched by the people from the lakeside region. She’s also touted as the richest musician in Kenya, and recently bagged a continental award for her music. That’s Esther Akoth, aka Akothee.

I am not a hater but her music to me is irrevocably repugnant, so much so that I remember she did a collabo with Diamond Platnumz, where the Tanzanian musical kingpin gave a halfhearted performance and another with this musician who has immense distaste for shirts. I only listen to her music only in situations where I have no choice; like matatus, which I am glad rarely plays and social gatherings where you can’t shout at the deejay to change the music. It could be torturous but I have learnt to accept things I can’t change.

I find her background questionable but admire her business acumen. Money has a way of cleansing people’s rotten lives. I’ve never walked in her shoes to know everything but with money, people are willing to cast a blind eye on how it was gotten. If she had sponsors, then she used them right, and now she can bawl and brag about her riches.

The singer’s first child cleared fourth form the other day. In a rather boisterous fashion, she bragged about him going to the university regardless of the result. What’s not possible in this rotten country? If we can have a fake doctor, what can’t we have? I bet we even have astronauts.

Speaking at Mambo Mseto’s Willy Tuva yesterday, Akothee rubbished girls who are out and about looking for sponsors. The women in question are just looking for money to afford flashy lifestyle which they floss on Instagram. They don’t think of investing the money, they only think of buying champagne.

According to her, sponsors can only sponsor projects not human being. I think for the first time since this craze hit our girls, I have had a conclusion to this immoral social bug. As a sponsor looking to better the society, what profit does your charitable deeds bring to the society?

She spoke about everything in her life; her relocation to Europe, her miscarriage and eventual collapse of her relationship owing to conflicting interests and many other others.

Psst! She has a new song out by the way. I hear it’s called Benefactor.
